Are you feeling depleted?

By the end of the day you are exhausted.

Kids in bed, pets taken care of, kitchen {mostly} cleaned up.

Hardly enough energy to have a conversation with your partner let alone pour back into yourself with something like a restorative Yin Yoga practice or even simpler, a basic breath work practice to prepare you for sleep.

Not only is your body fatigued, your brain is mush.

Instead of feeling settled and ready for a peaceful night sleep, you still feel that scribbly energy inside.

I see you, Reader,.

And you’re not alone.

Long days of putting your energy towards others means you can feel depleted by EOD.

Even if you did invite self-care at the start of the day, your nervous system is ready for more at this point.

No, it needs more, but you feel like you have nothing left to give.

Even just one small act of self-care to let go of the day and return to presence with yourself.

Something that takes a minimal amount of energy.

That doesn’t take scrolling through your phone to find the right Insight Timer meditation or YouTube video.

And doesn’t take remembering a specific breath pattern to settle you, or adding any new step to your already perfectly curated bedtime routine.

Instead, as you lie down for the evening, I want to invite you to simply cradle your head…

One hand at the back of your head where your hairline meets your neck and one hand over your eyes or on your forehead, whichever you prefer.

Then breathe and let go.

Let your body feel held and supported.

If you’re feeling like you’ve got nothing left to give for the day, trick your body into giving back to itself simply by intentionally holding the place that causes so much of the fatigue you’re feeling from the stories it creates with every interaction to the overthinking it does instead of trusting inner guidance to “know” the best choice.

When you feel complete, let go.

Relax your hands and arms and drift into a restful night’s sleep.

Your body knows what it needs often before your mind has a chance to catch up to it.

This is why Somatics is such a powerful tool.

It creates space for your physical sensations to be acknowledged.

So when your body and mind are too exhausted to possibly do anything more, offer this simple reset.

And see what happens.

I'd love to hear how it went for you, so just hit reply and let me know if you noticed anything different.

Cheers,

Repeat this in your mind as you cradle your head:
I am calm.
I am relaxed.
My mind is at ease.

Harvest Rhythms Retreat

I woke with a headache yesterday morning. Five minutes into my somatic yoga practice and I didn’t notice it anymore. I’m not someone who usually gets headaches but over the past 3-5 months, they’ve been happening more and more. They’re not debilitating, but still not enjoyable. Reader, I gave myself 10 minutes, then knew resting more wasn't going to fix this one, so stepped on my mat. It was a day I knew I could not skip because I was teaching a Yoga Flow class later that morning, and knew I...

Pedicured feet relaxing

It’s always been a wish of mine, Reader, to get regular manicures and pedicures, but I’ve always kind of thought that getting your nails done was frivolous. A luxury. And a vain attempt at self care. Until I was sitting in the manicure chair and tears started streaming down my face as my heart was bursting with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and awe. I rarely go to a salon to get my toes done – it’s a treat for me mostly because I don’t have a lot of extra cash laying around for things...

Relaxed Stress Level on Watch During Yoga Class

My average daily stress level June 29 - July 21 Hey Reader, I spent most of this month in a “moderate” (AKA yellow) stress level according to my watch instead of a green, low stress or blue, relaxed state. If I’m honest, most of my spring was like this as well with my mom having surgery to combat cancer in April and the inconsistency in schedule that the end of the school year brings in May. And far too many times in July I got “high stress” notifications on my watch. So I started paying...
